During a flight, all the data can be routed to a flight-data acquisition unit. Flight data is heterogeneous in nature and may include

- Inertial Navigation System
- Video feed
The type and the number of sensors are not fixed, it is application dependent. Flight-data acquisition unit can be implemented with dedicated hardware or integrated into the software of another avionic unit. Sensor fusion, or similar data processing techniques, can be applied to the data provided by the flight-data acquisition.
